"Equipping and empowering people to build thriving relationships with those who are different from themselves."

Hello! My name is Joshua Chan, and I am an alumni of Christian Coach Institute. I also have earned my Certified Professional Life Coach certification. I am passionate about helping people build and maintain meaningful, thriving relationships with others who do not share their worldviews or values. I help my clients become more mindful of their words, emotions, and priorities so that they can engage in challenging conversations in a way that minimizes frustration and stress.

I was raised in a very polarized environment, with an atheist father and a Christian mother. While I attended church with my mother each week, my father would frequently challenge my belief with difficult questions, like “If God is all-powerful and loving, why is there so much evil and suffering in this world?” or “If science can explain everything, do you still need God?” I came out of that environment with two important gifts: my Christian faith, and a great deal of experience in communicating effectively with people who have beliefs and values that differ from mine.

After graduating from the University of Texas, I worked for two years as a campus minister with Epic Movement, an Asian-American campus ministry committed to respectful dialogue between people who hold a variety of worldviews. Afterward, I spent time as a young adult intern minister, an Uber driver, and a personal fitness trainer. All of these jobs further refined my ability to communicate with and motivate people, resolve conflict, and cultivate positive relationships. Now that I am a Certified Professional Life Coach with the Christian Coach Institute, I am excited to help others who also want to build community with people from all backgrounds.

Testimonials

  • I have worked with Joshua as my personal trainer for the last 2 years. He has been an inspiration for me to get into better shape for my mental and physical health. He helps me stay on track and keeps me accountable for what I need to do to see results. Joshua also encourages me to keep going and put in the work. I would highly recommend him as a personal trainer and as a life coach.

  • As I was transitioning from a job I had worked for seven years, I went through a few coaching sessions with Josh. He helped me take inventory of my values to make that transitional time easier to navigate. He also helped me with some planning and time-management techniques to make me more confident that I'd be able to handle the new challenges I'd be walking into.

  • I met Josh about four years ago while he was a physical trainer at LA Fitness. I had let myself go over the previous few years since college and needed help being motivated to get back in shape and kick some bad habits I acquired. At the same time my mental health was suffering from stresses in my career and personal life which made any sort of consistent workout plan difficult. I felt I wasn’t making progress physically and worried in addition to everything else I was dealing with, I was wasting Josh’s time. That’s when he stepped out of being a physical trainer and become a life coach. Our weekly workouts quickly spawned deep conversations about life, friends, family, and career goals proving his special ability to relate while offering advice and perspective. I was at my lowest when I met Josh, and since then he’s been a part of my journey climbing out of that bad place, helping me become the best version of myself I believe I am today. I’m forever grateful for what Josh has done for me and the friendship that has ensued since. Everyone needs a Josh in their life.
